Some of these traditional recipes are from my husband’s family, and others are from mine. One of my favorite memories from childhood was having a Christmas party at my grandparents’ house. We would go caroling, smash a piñata, and enjoy Puerto Rican food and drink, including coquito, a Puerto Rican eggnog.

Use this easy coquito recipe to make this delicious treat for your family this holiday season. The coquito ingredients are easy to find at your local store, and the recipe is delicious.

Coquito Drink - Kids Are A Trip

Coquito is a traditional Puerto Rican drink enjoyed throughout the holiday season. Similar to eggnog, there are several variations, but I prefer the kind without eggs. As a child we had a non-alcoholic version, but as an adult it tastes pretty good with white or dark rum.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Additional Time 1 hour
Total Time 1 hour 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 (15 oz) can coconut cream
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweet condensed milk
  • 1 (12 oz) can evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup to 1 cup of white or dark rum (optional)
  • Cinnamon sticks for garnish

Instructions

Add all ingredients in a blender and mix thoroughly.

Refrigerate for at least one hour (or overnight) before serving.

Pour into glasses and garnish with cinnamon and a cinnamon stick. Enjoy!

Notes

If you want to have an alcoholic version, we recommend adding some Captain Morgans rum for a delicious treat.
